HOMER, AK - Homer resident Darl B. Blair, 60, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer.
Funeral services burial will be held Thursday in Homer, Alaska. A gathering in Yakima will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at 2408 S. 81st Ave. off Ahtanum Rd., at his sister Tracey Davenport's house. For directions, please call (509) 930-1584.
Darl was born Sept. 27, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 25, 1968 and served during Vietnam as a helicopter crew chief, working on Huey UH1D (Deltas). He was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1971.
Darl worked for Moore and Moore driving truck for the past seven years and worked in the forest industry and had his own tree pruning company for over 20 years in Washington and California.
Darl was a member of the Homer Independent Baptist Church and enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling.
"Darl continues his walk with the Lord in heaven as on earth. He was a devoted husband, cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather and well respected friend. He loved life and his family and will always be remembered for his warm friendly smile," his family said.
Darl was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Bryant and sister, Thelma Sipes.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Pelkey of Homer; sons, Steve Blair of Yakima, Wash., Tyson Blair of Hudson, Colo., Titus and Joel Blair; daughter, Lana Blair; stepsons, Vern and Paul Pelkey; stepdaughter, Monica Pelkey all of Homer; granddaughter, Katrina Gramham; great-grandsons, Tristen Gramham; grandsons, Johanan and James Blair; granddaughters, Venessa and Haily Blair all of Yakima, Wash.; grandson, Marley Blair of Homer; and step-granddaughter, Anita Pelkey-Tyler of Homer.
