Joseph Stephen Horvath 86, of Largo Florida passed away in Largo Medical Center on May 26, 2014. He was born in Cleveland OH, and has been a Florida resident since 1971.
He served in the US Army at the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Japan for 13 months during the occupation in 1946-1947. Joe received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1952 from Ohio University in Athens, OH, and was the former vice president of Western Reserve Life Assurance Company. He also worked for a time with Ohio Bell Telephone Company and Prudential Insurance Co. He enjoyed golf, cooking and "Rays" baseball.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Lorrie (Vargo) Horvath Largo FL, a son Bob (Debora) Seattle WA, daughters; Joan Horvath Largo FL, and Marykay Yeager (Paul) Seminole FL, grandchildren Justin Yeager, Nathan Yeager, Rayanna Horvath and Julia Horvath. He is predeceased by a daughter Susan Marie Horvath; parents Michael and Anna Horvath; sisters Betty Horvath, Anne Horvath and Mary Madej; and brothers Michael and Frank Horvath. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 31, 2014 at 9:45 am at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater. Visitation hours are planned for Friday May 30, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm at Serenity Funeral Home 13401 Indian Rocks Road in Largo.
