Mr. Blackshear-Walker was born Nov. 23, 1980, in Bend, Ore. He moved with his family from Lyons, Ore., to Icy Bay in 1993.

His family wrote, "John enjoyed writing poems for his family and loved ones, his mother received a special poem of love every year for her birthday and Mother's Day.
"Being surrounded by family and friends telling stories and bringing smiles and laughter was something John did very well. He also loved playing basketball with his brothers and many friends.

"John was a loving, caring, and kind-hearted son, brother and friend. He put the needs of others above his own and gladly gave of himself to help others, whether he knew them or not.

"Because of John's giving and caring spirit, he made friends easily wherever he went. Our lives have been enriched, thanks to the privilege of loving and being loved by John. John will remain in our hearts and memories forever."
