The family spent two exciting tours in Europe during the sixties and the seventies. Being a military brat, Tony and the family continued to travel to Colorado Springs and Denver, CO, one year in Parkville MO and on to Frederick, MD. Our last military move to Austin, TX in August of 1979. Tony spent his high school years at Crockett High School where he continued to excel academicals and also excel in three sports, basketball, track and football. He broke many track records at Crockett and some records are still on the walls of Crockett's gym. Tony was a star football running back and defensive back for four years. He was a kind and loving spirit and his friendships were numerous. He loved to draw/sketch pictures of animals and cartoon characters. Tony also learned to read and speak Arabic. He was always writing poems, and he loved to recite them. He even spoke at few locations in the city. We were impressed.
Upon graduation from Crockett High, Tony had many schools to choose from and he chose the University of Texas, where he was given the choice of an athletic or academic scholarship. After UT he signed on as a free agent to the Dallas Cowboys.
Tony spent many years making a living as a car salesman. He was well known in the Austin area especially along The Motor Mile. If you needed a car, Tony Griffin was your man.
Tony is survived by his parents, John L. and Lorena Griffin, his sister, Maria Griffin Rankins, his son, John A. Griffin, his daughter, Kali D. Tindell Griffin, a host of cousins, aunts and uncles
