Barbara was born November 29, 1929, in Temple, TX, to Sparks and Mattie Lewis.

She graduated from Academy High School in 1947.

She married Hubert Raymond Schmid on September 16, 1950, in Waco.

Barbara worked at McLennan Community College as secretary to the president, Dr. Ball. She also worked at the glass plant, and the VA hospital and regional office. Barbara and Hubert owned J & S Cycle Center in Waco and Killeen for many years. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Barbara loved sports and was a big fan of Texas Rangers baseball and Baylor Bear basketball. She had a passion for cats and dogs, and took care of many that found their way to her door. Barbara, also called "Barb" and "Aunt Barbie," was a very sweet and loving person.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Hubert; and by her brother, Jim Lewis of Temple.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Lori Beam, and husband, Jim, of Lorena; son, Steven Schmid and wife, Win-Jane, of Hewitt; sister-in-law, Betty Lewis, of Temple; her niece, nephews and cousins; as well as many special friends and neighbors.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Central Texas or the charity of your choice.
