A well-known stage coach driver in the days before the railroad reached Northern Maine. He drove the route between Houlton and Bangor during the Civil War. Then he became a driver for Johnson and Phair between Presque Isle and Houlton. He later ran his own stage line, for which he owned about 16 horses.
