ROGER LEE FLETCHER, 72 years of age of Pikeville, KY, formerly of the Homecreek Section of Grundy, VA, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, KY, following a short battle with cancer. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Frazier Cummins "Jake" and Marjorie Mae Deel Fletcher. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a member of Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church, Pikeville, KY. Roger served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and attained the rank of T-Sergeant, received the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and retired 7 years ago from operating heavy equipment in the Coal Mining Industry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1-Sister: Rita Jean Delph.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 48-years, Maggie Adkins Fletcher, Pikeville, KY; 4-Children: Timothy Marshall Fletcher, Winston-Salem, NC, Roger Shane (Tracy) Fletcher, Grundy, VA, Rebecca Vanessa (Hershel) Burks, Windsor, VA, Renita Nicole (Dr. Adam) Akers, Pikeville, KY; 6-Sisters: Carol Shepherd, Bristow, VA, Evelyn (Virgis) Blankenship, Abingdon, VA, Janice (Harry) Rainbolt, Locust Grove, VA, Betty (Harry) Brown, Chesapeake, VA, Joyce "Bo" (Bobby) Taylor, Grundy, VA, Sandy (Johnny) Phelps, Chesapeake, VA; 3-Brothers: Bobby (Sherry) Fletcher, North Port, FL, Johnny (Teresa) Fletcher, Grundy, VA, Jerry (Carolyn) Fletcher, Grundy, VA; 10-Grandchildren: Michael Blake Prater, Morgan MacKenzie Burks, Tiffany Nicole Fletcher, Dalton Harley Dean Fletcher, Micah Shantell Fletcher, Brianna Lenah Akers, MaKayla Lee Burks, Hannah Grace Akers, Alexis Faith Akers and Zoë Aeryn Fletcher.

Funeral Services for ROGER LEE FLETCHER will be conducted Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Adam Akers and Minister Eric Fleming officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, VA.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday and Friday evenings at 6:00 P.M. with a Song Service Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. and Regular Services Friday evening at 7:00 P.M.

Active Pallbearers will be Roger Shane Fletcher, Timothy Fletcher, Hershel Burks, Johnny Estep, Josh Armes, Jason Fletcher, Jeremey Fletcher and Dennis Dillow.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dennis Ruble, Timmy Potter, Jody Potter, Pat Justus, Rev. Larry Rife, Bobby Justus and Dean Daniels.

Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of Childs-Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
