Mr. Edwards was born Nov. 2, 1946, in Oxnard[sic], Calif.

After graduating from Oxnard High School in 1964, he worked in the Kalispell MT area. In 1966 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his enlistment, Mr. Edwards served in Vietnam and earned the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Marine Unit Citation. After his service in the Corps, he continued to serve in the Montana Army National Guard.

Mr. Edwards received a degree in sociology and a second bachelor's degree in elementary education at the University of Montana. From 1977 to 1988, he worked as head teacher in Kalispell while completing a master's degree in educational administration at the University of Montana.

Mr. Edwards' strong commitment to education brought him and his family to Alaska in 1988 where he accepted a teacher/principal position in Nikolski. His family recalls, "Mr. Edwards dedicated the majority of his life to the children he educated. He related to them with humor and had special insights for their needs. Ron succeeded so many times with the children he taught and made their lives richer and fuller. Many of these children have kept in touch with him as adults. These children, and his colleagues past and present, will always have a special place in their hearts for him. His life was filled with love for his family and friends. We will miss his warmth, strength and kindness."
