A 22-year-old Randolph Marine sergeant, Robert D. Arey of Allen st., home on leave from San Diego, Cal., was crushed to death in the wreckage of his car when it failed to make the curve on South st., crashed head-on into a tree, and overturned several times.

Summoned to the scene by residents who heard the crash, police worked for more than half an hour to extricate the Marine's body from the tangled mass of wreckage.

He was pronounced dead by Dr. Russell F. Thompson of Randolph, and later Medical Examiner Dr. George D. Dalton of Quincy ordered the body removed to a funeral home.

Arey, a graduate of Stetson High School in Randolph in 1954, was named outstanding football player of the year during his senior term. He attended Dean Academy and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1955.

Arey, home on the final days of his leave, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Arey, and also leaves four brother and three sisters. One brother, George, is a Randolph patrolman, and another, Kenneth F., is in the Navy.
