Age 71 - fell into Megunticook Lake in Camden. He was rowing a single scull boat when he fell in; he did not resurface. It is believed that he had a medical problem before falling in.
He was the father of Seth Wescott, two-time Olympic champion.
He is buried with his parents in the Lee Hill Cemetery in Lee, Strafford, New Hampshire.
