Clara was born in Logan County, Colorado on September 26, 1916 to her parents Rose and Joe Hornicek. They later moved to a farm south of Sunol where she attended country school. She was the oldest of four siblings; three sisters: Viola, Grace and Gladys and one brother Loyal. Her main duties as a young girl was helping in the house, but at times would help with chores and shocking grain. Clara was also a great bedtime story teller for her siblings and liked to draw.

For entertainment they attended barn dances where she met Donald Miles. They were married April 12, 1936. They lived in Julesburg, CO for a short time and then moved to Chappell where they raised their two children; Marvin and Rosann. They attended community dances at Krueger Lake, enjoyed square dancing (Don was a caller) and enjoyed bowling and card parties. She also belonged to several card clubs and lodges.

She was a member of the Chappell United Methodist Church since 1936 where she taught Sunday school for 12 years. She was the bookkeeper for Don's Skelly Station business, plus was a seamstress for many years for the clothing stores in Chappell and the many people in the surrounding area. She was a Girl Scout leader for two years.

Clara loved her home across from the swimming pool park. She loved watching the many activities at the park, watching the kids go to and from the high school and watching and listening to the marching band practice.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and sisters Viola Zimola and Grace Cruise.
