Daniel Lane Beck, 70, passed away on Sunday May 25, 2014 in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday May 29, 2014 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. with Rev. Steve McCollum officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be for the hour prior to service, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Mr. Beck was born in Valdosta, Georgia on December 5, 1943 to George Daniel Beck & Virginia Lane Beck. He was a Jacksonville resident for 45 years. Daniel proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for 10 years, achieving the rank of Captain. Daniel retired from Publix Supermarkets after over 53 years of service in the produce department and for the last few years he held the distinction of being the longest serving employee of the entire company.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Mandarin Men's Sunday School Class for 43 years, serving as a group leader and outreach leader. He was also very active in the prison ministry and crusade which included witnessing to death row inmates.

Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Beck. He is survived by his brother, Robert W. Beck (wife, Janice) of Clearwater, FL; 2 nieces; his close friends & caregivers, Larry Manning & Cookie Green and many church family members & friends including his Sunday School friends for over 30 years who will be serving as pallbearers: Hank Crowe, Wayne Langford, Charles Hudgens, Chuck Harvey, Emory Frigo & Danny Harris and honorary pallbearers: Rick Traylor, Matt Wesley, Jerry Langley, Duke Denson & Joe Rei. Arrangements are under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South Jacksonville, Florida 32216.
