Patricia Susan Bass Hyatt of Fort Smith died Sept. 22, 2009 in Fort Smith where following cremation, a memorial service was held.
Patricia is formerly of North Little Rock and a daughter of the late Donaghey Bass and Monetha Brown Bass. Born in 1934, she was reared in Cato and North little Rock.
A 1952 graduate of North Little Rock High School, she attended Hendrix College and was graduated from LSU in Baton Rouge.
An elementary school teacher for 25 years, she began her career at Lynch Drive Elementary School in North Little Rock and retired in 1992 from Stuttgart schools.
Her maternal grandparents were Andrew C. Brown and Alice Skinner Brown, who ran A.C. Brown Mercantile in Cato for many years.
Patricia's mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and Patricia herself were members of Cato Methodist.
Her great grandparents, Wylie and Melissa Beasley Skinner, and her great-great-grandparents, Noel and Nancy Beasley, were charter members of Cato Methodist, founded in 1872. As a youth and adult, Mrs. Hyatt was a member of First United Methodist in North Little Rock and Sylvan Hills United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, the Rev. Robert Lee Hyatt, minister, Presbyterian Church (USA) H.R. of Fort Smith; two sons, Martin Hyatt of Fort Smith, and Tommy Hyatt of Dallas, Texas; five grandsons, and first cousins Jimmy Brown, formerly of North Little Rock, Mary Jane Bass Huddleston, Conway, Becky Bass Jeffery, Batesville, and Billy, Royce, and Roger Harrell, all of Mayflower.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Cato Methodist Church Cemetery north of Sherwood conducted by her family.
During the 25 years she lived in Louisiana, she especially enjoyed the New Orleans funerals led by jazz bands.
Accordingly, there will be a jazz band leading the service in Cato on Sunday.
