He was born in Cooma NSW and educated at Cooma Public School and Fort Street High School, Sydney.
He entered the RAAF as a Cadet at Cook Point 1936

Jan 9th 1937 he sailed for England and was commissioned in the RAF but cont to wear RAAF Uniform.
Posted to 2 FTS Digby Lincs in Feb and then joined 64 Squadron at Martlesham Heath.
He moved to 234 Squadron at Leconfield, Yorkshire on Oct 30th 1939 as Flight Commander.

July 8 1940 he shared destroying a Ju88, on the 27th damaged another and on the 28th shared in destroying another,
He destroyed a Bf110 and shared another on Aug 15, shot down two Bf110's on the 16th, tow more on the 18th, tow more on the 26th. three on Sept 4th. Two Bf109's on the 5th, One and one prob on the 6th.

In an engagement near Folkestone on Sept 7th his Spitfire X4009 was seen out of control with part of a wing missing after colliding with a Dornier 17.
He crashed at Darks Farm Bessels Green, had not been able to bale out and was killed

Patterson Huges was awarded the DFC on Oct 22nd 1940 being credited with 7 enemny aircraft destroyed.

He married Kathleen Agnes ? of Leconfield
They are both buried in the Churchyard behind St James's Sutton on Holderness in the Borough of Kingston upon Hull

A Battle of Britain Hero
Whilst serving with 234 Squadron, flying Spitfire I X4009 killed during an attack on a Dornier when that exploded. Awarded the DFC posthumously. Just one month after his wedding.
