Mr. Gagne attended Augusta schools and was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church . He was proud to have served his country during WWII and reminisced about his Navy days stationed on the Patrol Craft USS PCE 896 (The Grey Ghost) in the South Pacific.
By trade, Richard was a welder and pipefitter ending his working career as a "Garbologist" at Statler Tissue (Hudson Mill) after 35 years employment.
Richard was a lifetime member of Le Club Calumet where, following his retirement, he spent many a playful afternoon playing cards with friends. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #2 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as a longtime member of The Augusta Lodge of Elks.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Raymond Gagne and two sisters: Laurentine Veilleux and Carmen Allarie.
Mr. Gagne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeannette V. (Gilbert) Gagne of Augusta; his son, Gilbert R. Gagne of Augusta; two daughters: Anne M. Gagne of Clyde, TX and Gail Y. Grindle and her husband Frederick of Zephyrhills, FL; brother-in-law, Noel Gilbert of Chelsea and sister-in-law, Anita Parent of Augusta; niece M. Therese Golden of Augusta and several other nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends may visit on Friday, May 30th from 6-8 PM at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where officers and members of the Calumet Club are asked to meet at 6 PM, Augusta Elks at 6:10 PM, the VFW at 6:20 PM and the American Legion at 6:30 PM to recite prayers for their departed member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 31st at 11 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Northern Ave., Augusta. Burial and committal prayers will follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Rd., Augusta.
