Twenty families, nine from Norway, seven from Denmark, three from Sweden and one from England, formed the first group of arrivals in the Scandinavian Camp in the area north of Opaki, Masterton. It was given the name ‘Dreyertown,' as recorded on Deposit Plan No.61 of August 21, 1877. (The Opaki post office, first opened in 1876, was renamed Dreyerton, and later renamed Kopuaranga.)
John WELLINGTON, 21 yrs and his wife Emlen (Emmeline) 20 yrs the only family from England took up Section 1, North Rd in Mauriceville.
