Shaffer was born in Denver, Colorado on Oct. 19, 1918, to George and Mildred Goff. She married A. Donald Shaffer in Riverside on June 5, 1938. She was a long-time California resident who lived in Ventura and Ojai until 1968, when she and her husband moved to Oakhurst. She lived in Oakhurst for nearly 30 years before returning to Ventura in 1997.
She was a skilled secretary who worked for Ventura County in the planning and public works departments for 10 years and for ParGas in Oakhurst for 17 years. While living in Oakhurst, she was a docent for the Oakhurst Historical Society, volunteered at the local elementary school and at a church thrift shop.
She also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Europe and cruises to various destinations. Audrey was a charter member of the Ojai Valley Community Church and until recent years was active in church work.
Audrey is survived by her daughters: Nancy Shaffer Kuenzly (husband John) of Ojai; Katherine Ann Johnson (husband Harlan) of Magazine, Ark.; and Mary Lou Shaffer-Plate of Santa Cruz. Also surviving her are 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Kay and Frances Goff of Clayton; sisters-in-law Lois Ferne Warner of Ventura and Julia Goff of Olympia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Donald Shaffer, who owned and operated Shaffer's Sporting Goods Store in Ventura and Oakhurst for more than 40 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Laurie D. Goff, Daryl Goff, and George Goff Jr.
