Guthrie, O.T., Nov. 30. Albert Welty was convicted here today of murder in the first degree for the killing of Alvin Bateman at Red Rock several months since. Welty's punishment is imprisonment for life. Welty and Ben Cravens held up and robbed the store of Swartz and company, Indian traders. Bateman, a clerk, entered the store while the robbery was in progress and began firing at the robbers with a pistol. The robbers riddled him with bullets and fled. Welty was wounded twice and was captured. Cravens, who had previously escaped from the Kansas penitentiary, was never captured.
