He was born Oct. 1, 1920, at Kamiah to William and Frances Doty Kitchen. He lived in southern Idaho in his early years. When he was 12, he moved with his mother to the Billy Creek Ranch on the Snake River, where his mother married Billy Smith, the ranch owner. Wallace's name was then changed to Smith. He attended school at Captain John from the sixth to 10th grades and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939. He attended the University of Idaho at Moscow for one year.
He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946 as an X-ray technician at Camp Carson, Colo.
Wallace spent many years on ranches and enjoyed working with livestock. He formerly owned the Prairie Club in Craigmont. Wallace retired in 1980 from P.F. Distributors as a driver-salesman.
Wallace and Mabel Jessie Kirk Light were married July 25, 1970, at Coeur d'Alene.
An earlier marriage ended in divorce.
He was a 40-year member of the Elks.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle F. Kitchen and Hal W. Kitchen; and a stepson, Eric F. Light.
At his request, cremation will take place and no service will be held.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Association.
