Jonathan Lyon was born on 1 June 1706 in the family home in Greenwich (The Thomas Lyon House, built about 1695 and still standing).

He married Elizabeth Mead in 1727 in Fairfield County, Connecticut.

A farmer, he removed to North Castle about 1748 where he owned land on both sides of the Danbury Post Road (present-day Bedford Road or Route 22) northeast of Smith's Tavern and south of Roger Lyon (who lived at Chestnut Ridge). His farmland was situated at approximately the present-day location of Windmill Farm (The Windmill Club) and Coman Hill Elementary School.

He died in North Castle, Westchester, New York.

Jonathan Lyon and Elizabeth Mead were the parents of eight children:

1. Jonathan Lyon, b. 14 November 1728.
2. Elizabeth Lyon, b. 28 June 1730.
3. Elnathan Lyon, b. 7 August 1732.
4. Israel Lyon, b. 20 December 1734.
5. Phebe Lyon, b. 16 December 1736.
6. David Lyon, b. 25 May 1740.
7. Peter Lyon, b. 17 May 1743.
8. Naomi Lyon, b. 31 January 1747.
