Funeral services for Willard Holt "Sully" Sullivan, age 93 of Jackson, will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Bruce officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Sullivan passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Jackson General Hospital.
He was born on October 9, 1920 in Eudora, MS to the late John Monoke and Margaret Florence Newberry Sullivan.
A longtime Jacksonian, Sully was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club, Beaver Club, Toastmasters, and the Chamber of Commerce Redcoats. He worked for Truex Chevrolet for 46 years serving as the President and General Manager. He is a Deacon Emeritus at First Baptist Church Jackson. He served his country in the Army Allied Forces during WWII, serving in North Africa and Italy.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hale Sullivan, who passed away in 1998; and several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by two daughters, Helen Todd (Lamar) of Memphis, TN and Margaret Applebaum (Ken) of Collierville, TN; grandchildren, Mary Royer Hays, Bradley Holt Applebaum (Grace), and Alan Scott Applebaum; two great-grandchildren, Madeleine Royer Hays and Andrew Jackson Hays IV; his nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jane Farrar.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Morningside Assisted Living Center and the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt for their loving care to Sully.
The family requests that any memorial contributions be directed to First Baptist Church Jackson.
Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 12 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home.
