Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy
Entered the Service From: Arizona

Thomas Patrick McGrath entered the US Naval Academy in 1936. One of his nicknames there was "Tiny". That was sarcasm, as he was a very large, powerful, man, and all around athlete. He especially shone on the football and track fields. He was also very successful, academically. He graduated in 1940, was commissioned as an Ensign, and went in to the submarine service. During the three years before his death, he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze star.

His last boat was the USS Pompano. The official loss date of the sub was 9 Sept. 1943. However, since the cause and exact place was unknown, he and his shipmates remained on the rolls of the missing until after the war.
