Bernice Lucille Vaughn, 76, died Tuesday (June 18, 2002) at Community Hospital of McCook.
She was born Aug. 30, 1925, at Indianola to Ivan H. and Matilda Mary (Colling) Quigley. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1942, and continued her education, earning a teaching certificate. She taught in several rural schools near Indianola and McCook. She was also employed as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell for some time after high school graduation.
On Jan. 31, 1946, she married Gerald Clifford "Buck" Vaughn. Together they farmed north of Indianola until their retirement in 1986, at which time they moved to McCook.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; her parents, Ivan and Matilda; and one brother, James Quigley.
Survivors include her two daughters, Marie and husband, Bob Smith, of Culbertson and Linda Vaughn of McCook; two sons, Gregory Vaughn and wife, Andrea, and Joseph Vaughn all of McCook; two brothers, Charles R. Quigley and wife, Lois, of McCook and Kenneth Quigley and wife, Margaret, of St. Francis; one sister, Betty and husband, Kenneth "Lee" Davidson of Indianola; and 10 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Catherine's Cemetery at Indianola following the service.
The rosary will be said today, 7:30 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook.
Visitation will be today until until the time of the rosary. Memorials may be given in her name.
