Served in World War II in U.S. Army tank corps. He was assigned to Company B, 701st Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served in the Egypt-Libya campaign, the Tunisia campaign, the Rome-Arno campaign and the Naples-Foggi campaign. He was wounded and lost leg in Italy in a tank accident. Received automobile and disability pension. Car had controls on steering wheel
so he could drive wih one leg. Accident happened at Anzio or Salerno. A jeep he was in hit a tank mine. There were 187 KIA and he was the only survivor.

Obituary Everette R Hansen
Everette R Hansen, 48, 127 North Frank Street, died Saturday at an Omaha hospital after a short illness. A life long resident of Council Bluffs, he was a member of St John Lutheran Church, Rainbow Post #2 of the American Legion and former member of the Disable American Veterans. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include: parents Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Hansen of Council Bluffs, two brothers Fred and Don, both of Council Bluffs. Funeral services will be at 11 AM Tuesday at Meyer Funeral Home, The Reverend Eugene Harrison, pastor of St John Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Lawn Cemetery
