A deacon at Fernwood Baptist Church; a member of Spartanburg County Medical Society; a member of Kiwanis; and a veteran of World War II. Army Medical Corps; a graduate of Furman University and the Medical College of South Carolina.
Survivors also include his daughters, Jeanne Abernathy Paul and Mrs. John Tyner III; son, William Woods Able (1948–1988); sister, Mrs. J. M. Robinson; and five grandchildren.
Services were held at 4:00 pm, Friday, November 17, 1978, at Fernwood Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
