Obituary

Charles Roszier Bodmer, 86, of Fairfield, Pa., husband of Fern Cregger Bodmer, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 14, 2010.

Born June 15, 1924, in Poolesville, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles Roszier Bodmer and Zada Florence Ryman.

A 1943 graduate of Poolesville High School, he was enlisted in the Army and proudly served in General Patton's Third Army. He received an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant.

He worked as a printer at several Washington area newspapers and retired as the composing room supervisor from the Washington Star newspaper after 25 years. At this time he moved from Poolesville to Fairfield, Pa.

Charles and his wife, Fern were able to travel extensively. One of his greatest adventures was sailing the Mediterranean and the Greek Isles with his former pastor, Jim Morgan.

Besides his wife of 66 years, he was the father of 5 children; C. Edward and wife Nancy, Thomas L. and wife Carol, Diane B. Boyer and husband Clark, James W. and wife Ann, and Gary R. and wife Patricia; nine grandchildren: Carrie Brandt, Jason Bodmer, Mary E. "Beth" Boyer O'Boyle, James Boyer, Serrin Bodmer, Katie Bodmer, Corey Bodmer, Lora Bodmer and Ada Bodmer; 6 great-grandchildren; Grace, Samuel, Anna and Caleb Bodmer; Nicholas and Joshua Brant.

Charles is survived by sister Pearl L. Lodge.

Charles was best known for two things, his deep and loyal love of his family and his relationship with the Lord. He was raised in the Poolesville Methodist Church. When he moved to Fairfield after his retirement, he and his wife joined the Gettysburg Foursquare Gospel Church, where he served as a member of the Church Council. In 2002 they transferred their membership to the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon.

A memorial service will be held at the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church, 1865 Knoxlyn Road, Gettysburg, Pa 17325 on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 11:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, 2700 Luther Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17202. Arrangements through the Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield, PA.
