FANCY FARM — Elnora Frances Carter, age 97, of the St. Denis Community, died at 3:10 p.m. Monday, October 10, 2016, at Clinton Place Nursing Facility in Clinton, Kentucky.

Elnora was a very active member of the St. Denis Catholic Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years, she wrote the St. Denis news article for the Hickman County Gazette for 40 years, and was a local historian who helped write the Hickman County and Fancy Farm history books, and she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her nine daughters, Mary Frances (Donald) McEachern of Mayfield, Emily Regina (Larry—deceased) Iser of Joppa, Maryland, Paula Sue (Donald) Goodman of Mayfield, Elizabeth Gail Gutschmidt of Wingo, Clara Ann (Mitchell) Laneave of Jefferson City, Missouri, Patricia Catherine (David) Hagen of St. Louis, Missouri, Ruby Denise (Joe) McWhorter of Clinton, Janette Martha (Mark) Stahr of Kennesaw, Georgia and Annette Marie (Mike) Baumgartner of Lenoir City, Tennessee; four sons, Herbert Joseph (Lucy) Carter of St. Louis, Missouri, Melvin Elisha (Wanda) Carter of the St. Denis Community, Raymond Edward (Chris) Carter of Boaz and Glynn Thomas (Judy) Carter of the St. Denis Community; a sister, Susan Jane Crenshaw of Fancy Farm; 36 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Elnora was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Paul Carter; parents,
Bennett Harrison and Addie Emaline Gibson Toon; grandson, James McEachern; four brothers, Charles Toon, Albert Toon, Tom Toon and Rudolph Toon; and daughter-in-law, Diane Carter.

Funeral Mass for Elnora will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016, at St. Denis Catholic Church with Father Crispin Oneko officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Denis Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call after 5 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2016, at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
