"Johann Rehker

Mr. Rehker was born in Neuenkirchen, Westphalia, on 5 March 1860. He received his early education there, and after successfully completing school he took up farming and worked with his parents until he was 17 years old. He then immigrated to America, and after he had worked on various farms for three years near New Vienna and two years in Arcadia Township, he traveled back to Germany in order to bring his aged father also to America because his dear mother had already passed away in 1867. Upon returning to America, the old gentleman made his home with his son Edward in Arcadia. Johann Rehker then went to work again on various farms in Arcadia Township for five years, and then he purchased a 160-acre farm in Arcadia Township. It is a fine piece of land and is equipped with good buildings. On 19 May 1885, Mr. Rehker married the virtuous Miss Josephina Olberding, who was born on 3 January 1866 in the parish of Steinfeld, Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. Mr. Rehker is a progressive farmer, and he and his wife are popular and respected among all their acquaintances in Carroll County. This happy marriage produced five children, one of whom is deceased. The names of the children still living are: Joseph, Anna, Edward, and Clemens."
