Bobby Barton Gates, passed away Thursday evening, January 12, 2006 at her residence on Springhill Road in Jasper. She was born on April 24, 1930 in La Pryor, Texas, then moved to Crystal City, Texas when she was 10 and lived there until she married Joel G. Gates in 1950 then moved to East Texas and Louisiana, before relocating to Jasper in 1969. Ms. Gates was a member of the Church of Christ on Hwy 96 South in Jasper and was baptized into Christ as a young girl. She had also retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Jasper in 1998. She is survived by her husband, of 55 years, Joel Gates of Jasper; sons, Ben Milton Gates and wife Christi and their son, Ben Brandon Gates and wife Season and great grandchildren Ciara and McKenna all of Chattanooga, TN; and Jason Gates and wife Tannis, and their children, Ryan and Ashley all of Camros, Alberta Canada; daughter, Florence Gates Stokesbary and husband, Albert of Jasper, and children, Naaman Spratley and wife Aimee and Great grandchildren Alixandra, Mattie and Rylee all of Houston, TX; Susan Gillespie and husband Glenn and great grandchildren Malkom and Westen of Jasper, TX; and Brandee Spratley of Austin, TX; and by her sister, Betty Gregory of Portland, TX.
