Agnes was born in Baltimore, Maryland as the seventh daughter and one of eleven children of John Henry Lurz, Sr. and Catherine Zeller Lurz on November 26, 1921. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 10, 2014. Agnes met Allen Israelsen, then a lead pilot flying four-engine B-24 bombers in the 8th Air Force, in London while she was working as an FBI secretary and he was stationed in Mendlesham, England. After completing his military tour, Agnes resigned her London FBI position and they were married in Baltimore on January 13, 1945. Agnes' lifelong occupation was as a homemaker and textile artist. She made many, many homes for the Israelsens and made sure that every major family milestone was marked with a beautifully composed cross-stitched piece. After the wedding in Baltimore, there came the moves to Ohio, Oregon, and finally to San Jose, California where their daughter Kathy was born. From there it was back to the east coast to Virginia where their son Mark was born. In their retirement years, Agnes and Allen lived in Silver Spring, Maryland, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to be with their granddaughters, and eventually in Berkeley, California with Kathy. Agnes is predeceased by her cherished siblings and her son Mark and is survived by her husband Allen, daughter Kathy, granddaughters Liz and Jen Winston, and many beloved nieces and nephews throughout the country. Memorial services will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. Donations may be made in her honor to Sutter Care at Home Hospice.
