WALKER FUNERAL

Funeral services for Julius H Walker, first commander of the American Legion of South Carolina, who died Saturday night after an extended illness, were conducted at 11 o'clock yesterday morning from the Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev Louis C Melcher, rector. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery.

A veteran of World War 1, he was elected temporary state commander when the American Legion was orgnanized in Florence in the summer of 1919. Mr Walker's election was made permanent at a later meeting, and he served until his successor was chosen at a convention in Spartanburg the following May.

A lifelong resident of Columbia, he had engaged in the real estate business, specializing in residential construction.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs Margery [Ellison] Walker, originally of Philadelphia; three sons, Julius H Walker, Jr, Eugene E Walker and Charles B Walker, all of Columbia; and one daughter, Mrs Robert Roy Pearce, also of Columbia; his mother, Mrs Margaret Lowndes Walker o Charleston; three sisters, Mrs Douglas McKay, Sr, and Mrs Frances M Pinckney of Columbia, and Mrs Russell Guerard of Charleston.
