Jan was born in Portland, Oregon to Nettie and Ernest Tilton. She married Jack Heidinger on May 21, 1949. They had three children: Sue, Jack and Trudy.
Following her husband's death in 1968, Jan met Ray Helms, a resident of Prineville. They soon married and added Ray's daughters, Martie and Marsha, to their fmily.
Jan dearly loved and was loved by her grandchildren: Katie, Nicole, Mindy,Andee, Jennifer, Alex and Scott.
She lived 40 years in the valley and 47 years in Prineville. Her "valley family" tried several times to convince her to move back but her church family, local friends and wonderful Central Oregon climate kept her happily settled in Prineville.
Jan worked as a loan closer for a major credit union in Portland. She later worked many years as the secretary at Prineville Community Church. Jan was always quick to help and beyond generous. She was dedicated to organizing other to help those in need.
Jan loved her family. She relied on her faith. She treasured many friendships, some lasting over 60 years. Jan was always ready for a party. If there wasn't one in the near future, she was planning one. Her grandchildren thought she was awesome. She was fun, upbeat lady with a quick smile and a great laugh.We are all so lucky to have had her in our lives.
