Utica Herald-Dispatch (Utica, New York), 21 Mar 1903: "Death of Mrs. James Stone -- Yesterday noon at her home on Spencer street occurred the death of Mrs. James Stone. The cause of death was apoplexy. Mrs. Stone had suffered for the past two months to such an extent that she had been confined to her bed. Mrs. Stone was 40 years old and was born Sept. 14, 1862, in the village of Vernon, Oneida county. Seventeen years ago she was married to James Stone. A husband and one son, Jay Schuyler of this village, survive. Five sisters, Mrs. William Bowers [sic] of Knoxboro, Mrs. Clara Davis of Utica, Mrs. F. Kline, Mrs. M. Wagnette [sic] and Miss Jennie Crouse [sic] of Verona, and two brothers, William E. Dann and Elmer Dann, both of Verona, and her father, William J. Dann, of Verona, also survived. Mrs. Stone to the last bore her suffering with fortitude and bravery. She was one of the best known residents of this village, and with her many amiable qualities, had made innumerable friends, who will learn of her demise with sincere regret. She was a member of the Methodist Church of this village. She was ever active in promoting the welfare of the church. The funeral will be held Sunday noon at the residence on Spencer street, the Rev. W. H. Baker officiating. The body will be taken to Utica, where on Monday at 2 o'clock the funeral services will be held at Slawson's undertaking parlor. The local GAR will furnish the bearers for the services at the house and the relatives will act as bearers in Utica."
