Luciel M. Marcou, age 94, died Tuesday June 11, 2013, at Onalaska Care Center.

She was born April 26, 1919, in La Crosse to Arthur and Angeline (Lambert) Aylsworth. She married James Marcou on Nov. 21, 1938, at St. James the Less Catholic Church in LaCrosse.

Jim and Luciel owned and operated Jim’s Market on the Northside of La Crosse for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Luciel was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, baking and family get togethers. She was a very generous, kind person who had a special place in her heart for the needy, the poor, small children and family pets. She spent her retirement attending daily mass, volunteering at church with crafts, funeral lunches and cleaning the church. Luciel enjoyed bingo, playing cards, gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Luciel is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Walter) Schoen of La Crosse, Marianne (Michael) Mc Ardle of La Crosse, and Therese (Steven) Laufenberg of La Crescent, Minn.; one son, Robert (Mary) Marcou of Bangor; and one daughter-in-law, Mary Marcou of La Crosse. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Luciel was preceded in death by her husband, James; one son, James Marcou; one grandchild, Karen Schoen; three brothers, Norman, Joseph, and John; her parents; and one very special cousin/friend, Dorothy “Sis” Dowling.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Skobic, Cindy Glennie, NP, and all of the kind, caring staff at Onalaska Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James the less Catholic Church, 1032 Caledonia St. in La Crosse. The Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate with burial to be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in La Crosse. Family and friends may call from 9:30 am until the time of Mass at the Church. Blaschke and Schneider Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. James the Less Catholic Church Endowment Fund.
