He and his twin brother, Clare Robert Houston jointly farmed over one hundred acres of family owned vineyards. During the depression when in lieu of cash they were pain in juice for their grapes, the brothers began to search for their dream; gold-rich ground for dredging operation. They found such a place in 1938 in Vallecito, California and later built a larger dredge outside of Dale, Oregon. The twins returned to farming in 1942 as a result of a government mandate during World war II. In subsequent years they also owned and managed several commercial buildings.
Glen and his wife Hazel were avid travelers.
Glenn Houston married his beloved wife of67 years, Hazel Osa Higginson, at Santa Cruz in June of 1927. They had a son and a daughter. He was preceded in death by his brother and son.
