Darrel E. "Zip" Cummings of Garden City, Missouri was born March 22, 1936 in Harrisonville, Missouri the son of Doris (Doe) Darrel and Gladys Ellen (Fitzwater) Cummings. He departed this life on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 76 years, 7 months.
On September 17, 1959, Darrel was united in marriage to Mary Lou Hahn in Harrisonville, Missouri.
Darrel was a 1954 graduate of Harrisonville High School and played on the 1951 High School Mineral Water Bowl Championship Game. He was a line type setter and went to school at Columbia, Missouri for his trade. He worked at various newspapers including the Democrat Missourian, Independence Examiner and for many years at the Belton Star Herald before his retirement in 1989. In early married life they bought and fixed up farms and sold them until 1973 when they found the farm they loved and made as their home. Darrel liked his toys; boats, cars, farm equipment, but he really liked his variety of animals throughout the years on the farm. Darrel had a wide variety of friends. He loved the outdoors and camping around a on fire with family and friends. Darrel loved his farm and got where he was happy spending his time at the farm and enjoyed people coming by.
In his last few years he liked working on old cars with friends, a special car was his wife's, Mary Lou's 1978 Mercury.
Besides his parents, Darrel was preceded in death by his sister, Glenna Gail Cummings.
Darrel is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Cummings of the home; his sister, Doris "Doie" Cummings and husband, Junior, Climax Springs, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces. He will be deeply missed by many.
