Laura Faye BUNCH Our sweet and loving Mother, Grandmother, and Friend passed away on May 6, 2006 after a battle with liver cancer. Laura was born on January 3, 1923 in Duncan, Oklahoma to Ed and Willie May Whitener. She graduated from Duncan High School in 1941 and married her hometown sweetheart, James Bunch, December 24, 1941.

Laura and Jim lived all over the continental US, Alaska and in Germany during Jim's career with the US Army Corps of Engineers. After Jim retired, they moved to Fairbanks, Alaska where Jim worked on the Alaska Pipeline for three years. They then moved to Soldotna, Alaska where they designed and built a house together and enjoyed living next door to their older daughter and their grandchildren.

Jim and Laura moved to Washington State in 1985 to be near their younger daughter's family and to enjoy milder weather. Their family from Alaska moved to Washington several years later. She was the center of her families' lives in Washington, and spent many wonderful times with them over the years.

Laura's life can be characterized by her deep love for each member of her family. She took loving care of her mother and later her husband Jim, both of whom suffered through long and difficult illnesses. She was always generous with her time and willing to help anyone with any task. She was a careful listener and made each of us feel so special by taking such care in everything that she did for us and offering her love and friendship at all different stages in each of our lives.

In addition to spending time with her family, Laura enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and taking long walks. Laura was also the family arm wrestling champion before retiring at the height of her career in her 70's.

Laura is survived by her daughters, Jeanie Benward of Bellevue, Mary (James) Spicuzza of Mercer Island, her grandchildren Amy, John, Katie and Joe, and her great-grandchildren Faye and Calef. She is also survived by her older brother Jack (Alienne) Whitener of Pacific Palisades, CA, her sister Paula Greer of Bethany, OK, her niece Theresa Whitener, and nephews Mike Whitener and Stephen Greer. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1996. Mother, Mom, Grandmommy, Amari, your loss leaves a hole in the center of our family that will never be filled.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Laura's life will be held at the Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Bellevue, WA. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018, www.hdsa.org.
