Army Sgt. 1st Class Stephen J. White, 39, of Talladega, Alabama died in An Najaf, Iraq, on January 5, 2006, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during convoy operations.
He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
Among White's survivors are his wife of 14 years, Vicky, who is also an active duty soldier.
He was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, a Meritorious Service Medal and a Combat Action Badge for the actions leading up to his death.
