Earlene Frances Scott
Earlene Frances Scott, 85, of Boise, spent the last week of her life at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Barb Scott, where she died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.
Earlene was born Nov. 14, 1923, at Wellington, Texas, the eldest of four children, to Elijah and Virginia King. The family lived a hardscrabble life in Texas and Corinth, Miss. Mom always felt her life really began when her mother and siblings moved with the help of her uncles to Caldwell, Idaho in 1938. She met the love of her life, our dad, James D. Scott, at Caldwell High School, where they became sweethearts.
He left school early to join the US Navy. Mother later moved to Long Beach, Calif., where they married on Nov. 2, 1944. After the war they returned to Caldwell and began their family. They farmed for several years before an injury forced dad into other lines of work.
During their time on the farm they had three children in three years. Dad started his career with the Idaho State Dept. of Employment in 1951; they moved to Lewiston and then Sandpoint where they had their fourth child in 1954. The five years spent in Sandpoint was a very special time for everyone in the family and we maintain some very dear friendships to this day. In March of 1959 we moved to Boise.
Earlene was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Her home was always clean and orderly and filled with the smells of cooking. She was a wonderful gardener, seamstress, neighbor, babysitter, and volunteer. She loved her church, the First United Methodist Church, Cathedral of the Rockies, where she was very active in numerous women's groups. She was the epitome of a Christian woman.

She loved her family, her friends, and Idaho. She was always up, dressed, with makeup on by 10 o'clock ready for any adventure. We spent summers camping in the Idaho mountains and she loved nothing better than finding huckleberries or frying up the trout we caught. After dad retired they enjoyed many years traveling in their motor home, living in Kauai, Hawaii and Yuma, Ariz., and going on cruises. They spent their final years together at Willowbrook in Garden City where they appreciated the friendship and kindness of their neighbors.

Earlene is survived by her children: son Donald F. Scott and his wife, Barbara and Don's children David Scott (Megan Jones), and their children Dylan and Gabriel, Isaac Scott (Mindy) and their children Conner Scott Schow, Autumn, and Eli; Sarah Scudder (Scooter Scudder) and daughter Emily; daughter Nancy Scott Harris and her husband Richard, and her children Andrea Hansen and her daughters, Ellen and Molly, and Christopher Erwin (Kim) and their sons Zachary and Marcus; daughter Catherine B. Scott and her partner Ruth Osterhout, all of Boise, and son Leonard A. Scott and his wife Asako Shiba, and their daughter Naomi Shiba Scott of Honolulu, Hawaii. Also surviving her is her sister Florene Wynn and brother Michie King and many nieces and nephews.
Her beloved husband of 64 years, James D. Scott; her mother, Virginia King; and her brother, Elmer B. King, preceded Earlene in death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m., at Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel at 12th and Bannock, with a viewing from 10 -11 a.m., one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.

The family is deeply grateful to all the folks at Plantation Place Assisted Living; the owners, Bruce and Maryann Murdock, the staff, and residents for their care, love, and friendship. Also thank you to all the great people of St. Luke's ER, CCU and Hospice units. Thanks also to the nursing staff at Elk's.

Mom was loving, kind, generous, and funny. She'll be remembered with love and affection, a laugh and a giggle, and appreciation and gratitude. She was one of a kind.
