A 1957 graduate of Haven High School, he was a Haven resident most of his life. He was a Farmer, Cattleman, Dairyman and Mule Man for over 53 years.
On August 22, 1959 he married Nancy Gilmore in Haven, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Debbie Whittle, son Major C. "Cy" Cokeley, Jr. (Lisa), all of Haven, KS, two sisters, Ramona Yorgenson (Melvin), Gridley, KS, Elsie Law (Glenn), Hutchinson, KS, brother, John Cokeley (Helen), Stafford, KS, mother-in-law, Irene Gilmore, Haven, KS, two grandchildren; Zackery Cokeley and Megan Tonn, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
