Major Cyrus Cokeley Sr., 75, died May 21, 2014 at his home in Haven. He was born March 21, 1939 in Gridley, KS, the 10th of 11 children born to Alva and Bertha Mary May Long Cokeley.

A 1957 graduate of Haven High School, he was a Haven resident most of his life. He was a Farmer, Cattleman, Dairyman and Mule Man for over 53 years.

On August 22, 1959 he married Nancy Gilmore in Haven, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Debbie Whittle, son Major C. "Cy" Cokeley, Jr. (Lisa), all of Haven, KS, two sisters, Ramona Yorgenson (Melvin), Gridley, KS, Elsie Law (Glenn), Hutchinson, KS, brother, John Cokeley (Helen), Stafford, KS, mother-in-law, Irene Gilmore, Haven, KS, two grandchildren; Zackery Cokeley and Megan Tonn, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.

Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Hospice and Homecare of Reno County in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
