Neal E. Mitchell, 80, of Correctionville died Sunday, February 6, 2011, at his residence. Memorial services were held at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Revs. Ed Frank and Keith Byers officiating. Burial followed in the Correctionville Cemetery under the direction of Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home, Correctionville. Neal Edwin Mitchell was born January 8, 1931, in rural Pierson, Iowa, to Ira and Clara (McConnell) Mitchell. He graduated from Climbing Hill (Iowa) High School in 1949. After high school, from 1951 to 1953 he served in the U.S. Army and became a sergeant. He spent 17 months in Korea and received the Bronze Star. Neal married Mary Deeds on December 2, 1955. To this union two sons were born, Dana and Darlo. Neal worked for 10 years for REC in Vermillion, S.D., then 26 years for I.P.S. He retired in February 1993. Survivors include a son, Dana (Shelley) Mitchell of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Chris (Brandie) Mitchell of Sioux City, Tenille Mitchell of Sioux City, Ben Mitchell of Des Moines, and Katie Mitchell of Des Moines; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Schuldt of Sioux City and Lila Howard of Moville, Iowa; a brother, John D. Mitchell of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Darlo; his sister, Marvel Hartle; and his brothers, Duane and Howard Mitchell.
