Mark Novas Hopkins passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Mark was born July 18, 1936, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Russell G. Hopkins and Mable A. Novas. He attended grade school in the Blackfoot area, and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1955. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force.
After leaving the Air Force, Mark returned to Idaho. He worked at a meat packing plant in Twin Falls, then returned to Blackfoot and worked at the Atomic Energy Commission site for ten years and Smith-Magneto Auto Parts as a customer representative for about four years. Afterwards, Mark decided to be his own boss and founded an auto and truck repair and tire store in American Falls.
After Mark's father became ill, Mark again returned to Blackfoot to participate in the family business, Hopkins Packing Company, running the slaughter and smoke house. He retired from Hopkins Packing in 1999.
Mark is a Past Exalted Ruler of the Blackfoot Lodge No. 1416 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and was active in the Western Meat Packers Association.
On May 20, 1983, Mark married long-time Blackfoot resident Terry Bithell. Mark enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Men's Golf Association at the Blackfoot Golf Course. For many years, Mark and Terry spent their winters snowmobiling in Island Park. Beginning in 2009, Mark and Terry began spending their winters in Yuma, Arizona, to escape the cold Idaho winters and allowed him to play golf year round.
Mark is survived by his wife, Terry, daughters Linda (Paul) Bondo and Penny King, Grandsons Jordan (Crystal) Bondo and Erik (Audri) Bondo, great-granddaughter Lucy and his great-grandson due to arrive in August, and his sister Della (Roger) Ray.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Don Novas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m, Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Blackfoot Elks Lodge, 123 North Ash Street.
The family will meet with friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue, and again on Tuesday at the Lodge for one hour prior to the services.
