Mrs. Charles C. (Elizabeth) Metzger passed away from this life at 9:05 PM on the night of Tuesday, January 21, (1941) at her home on 413 West Street in Galena, Illinois. Although she had been in failing health for one year, her condition was not considered serious until she became ill with pneumonia about a week before her passing.

Miss Elizabeth l. Brauch was born at Peoria, Illinois on May 13, 1866, the daughter of the late Charles W. and Ernestine (Menzemer) Brauch, and came to Galena when she was a young girl. She was united in marriage in Galena on October 13, 1892, to Charles C. Metzger, and to this union eight children were born, six daughters and two sons, all of whom survive as follows: LeRoy Metzger of Galena Mrs. S. V. Jones, of Minneapolis, Minnesota Mrs. John Schleicher of Galena Mrs. Alvin Buman of Galena Mrs. Robert Altona of Galena, Mrs. Leo Conway of Chicago, Mrs. Ardale Obermiller of Galena, and Karl Metzger of galena She also leaves to mourn her passing, 16 grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Glick and Mrs. Osburne Sincock, both of Galena. Her parents and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Metzger was affiliated with the Hill Presbyterian Church and the GAR Circle. Her life had been full of cheerfulness; her happy, sunny disposition had been a quality for which she was known by all who had her friendship. Her ever willingness to help those in need was a sterling quality which surely is one of the consolations held bu those dear to her memory.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM Friday afternoon, January 24, at the Bertsch Funeral Home in Galena. With the Rev. Wayne W. Hoxsie, pastor of the South Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. William Tjaden, former pastor of the Hill Presbyterian Church and now of Schapville, officiating. During the services some of Mrs. Metzger’s favorite hymns were played, including “Face to Face”, God Be with You till We Meet Again”, and “The Old Rugged Cross”. The exceptionally large floral offering was emblematic of the love and esteem held by her relatives and friends. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Galena, with the following acting as casket bearers; Harry Mattoon, Glenn Bruner, Wilbur Geiger, John Wrenn, Gordon Temperly, and Joseph Keefe. The following from out of town attended the funeral : Rev. and Mrs. Harry Robinson and Samuel Sincock, from Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Glick, Shullsburg, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Drillous Sincock and Mr. and Mrs L.W. Roehl of Dubuque, Iowa; and Mrs. Minnie Bausman of Apple River, Illinois.
