ALLEN, HENRY CLAY: Born in Pittsylvania County 4 Nov 1844, son of James Green Allen and Lavicia Forrest Vaden; enlist 13 March 1862 at Kentuck; Private in Company A. Present until Wounded In Action at Malvern Hill 1 July 1862. Sent to Danville General Hospital on 6 Aug 1862 with chronic diarrhea and returned to duty 13 Nov 1862. Captured 2 Union soldiers at Chester Station 10 May 1864. Admitted to Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond 17 May 1864 with wound to right thigh, probably received at Drewry's Bluff on 16 May 1864. Married Elizabeth Taylor on 7 Nov 1867 and fathered 9 children; later married Ora Graves. Tobacco farmer near Spring Garden. Elected Virginia House of Delegates as Democrat in 1897. Died at home of heart disease 5 June 1925.
