John J. ALLRED is the son of Francis ALLRED and his wife Rachel ALLISON of Randolph County, North Carlina.

First Marriage of John J. ALLRED to Susanna CARWILE:

Susanna CARWILE, Find A Grave Memorial# 182688229, was the first wife of John J ALLRED per Family Search.
Susanna CARWILE, age 21, married John J ALLRED, age 25, on 1828 in Hilham, Overton County, Tennessee.
Susanna died in 1842 perhaps from complications at childbirth with a 7th child.

The children of Susanna CARWILE and John J ALLRED are:

1. Francis Marion ALLRED, b. 1829 TN; d. 1846 TN
2. Henry ALLRED, b. 1831 TN; d. 1832 TN
3. Mary Jane ALLRED, b. Jul 1834 TN; d. aft 1910 NC
4. Caswell "Cas" ALLRED, b. Apr 1835 TN; d. Jan 1917 TN

All the above six children were born in Hilham, Overton County, Tennessee.

Second marriage of of John J. ALLRED to Rhoda ATKINSON:

One can only conclude from the 1850 US Census of the adjacent Fentress County, Tennessee to Overton County that John J ALLRED married a second time to Rhoda ATKINSON some time after his first wife died in 1842. Rhoda's apparent mother Elizabeth ATKINSON, born 1766 is also listed in that 1850 census. It would be reasonable to believe that the widower John J. ALLRED needed help with his four children small children. Thus explaining why the apparent widow Rhoda ATKINSON and her mother elder mother, Elizabeth ATKINSON, are included in the same household per the 1850 US Census for John ALLRED in Fentress County, Tennessee.

This second marriage to Rhoda ATKINSON is supported by the research of Molly Wren on 23 Aug 2020 who sent the following data found by William ALLRED based on information located in the Tennessee State Library & Archives, Fentress County, Land and Deed office.

"Rhoda Atkinson, b. ca 1803, d. after 1856. daughter of Charles & Elizabeth Atkinson, mother to James Fentress Atkinson, b. 1829, d. March 1863."

"Rhoda Atkinson, married Lewis Jones, ca July 1827, divorce October, 1829. Copy of this divorce was obtained from the Tennessee State Library & Archives. Fentress County 136-1829. This divorce was granted by the Tennessee State Legislature. According to the divorce, Rhoda married Lewis Jones in July 1827. They lived together 4 or 5 months. He spent his time in idleness and dissipation. He abused her and left her with a child; a child not more than 8 days old. He took a woman of ill fame and started to leave the county with her."

"Statement by Nelly Groom who had known Rhoda since she was a small girl, and stated that Lewis said he came from Virginia. Nelly helped them get back together, but Lewis deserted Rhoda again. Lewis also sold all the property (land, cattle, mare and household furniture) that Rhoda had managed to acquire before their marriage through her own industry. Other statements were by Asa Johnson, John W. Sampson and Rhoda's mother, Elizabeth Atkinson."

"Rhoda's brother, William Atkinson, was the Justice of Peace, that handled this divorce for Rhoda. It is interesting to note, that Nelly Groom also gave testimony in a divorce of William Atkinson and his wife, Elizabeth, in 1820."

"A September, 1856, land deed was signed by James Fentress Atkinson and Rhoda Atkinson Allred selling 100 acres of land on 1st September, 1856. Another copy was obtained from the Fentress County, Land and Deed office, noting that James Fentress Atkinson was Rhoda's son and was married to John Allred." By David Atkinson, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Third marriage of John J. ALLRED to Sarah REDMON:

I believe John ALLRED married Sarah REDMON in about 1757 after the death of Rhoda in about 1756. I would estimate John ALLRED married Rhoda in about 1845 as the daughter of Elizabeth ATKINSON.

The wife of John OWNES, Find A Grave Memorial# 14576708, was Sarah REDMON, Find A Grave Memorial# 14477925.

Sarah REDMON OWNES, age 29, married a second time to John J ALLRED, age 57, on about 1857 in Hilham, Overton County, Tennessee.

Placed a Flower on the FAG memorial of John J. ALLRED stating he was the 4th great grandson. Bryan left the following message:

My name is Bryan Collins. I am a native of Livingston, Overton County, Tennessee currently residing with my family in Nashville, Tennessee. I am the son of Darrell and Patricia (Choate) Collins. I am the grandson of Champ Edward and Nola (Ledbetter) Brewer Collins, and Grover and Opal (Allred) Choate. I am the great-grandson of Walter and Mary (Abney) Collins, Walter and Mae (Ledbetter) Ledbetter, Charlie and Winnie (Goodpasture) Allred, and Earl and Willie (Cole) Choate. To this day, these surnames and many others in my lineage still reside in the Upper Cumberland region of Tennessee.

I have been researching my family tree on and off since I was 17 years old. Like many people of the Upper Cumberland, most of my family were a poor but very proud and God-fearing people of agrarian means who worked hard to provide for their families and carved out a living from the hills. My vision with family research is to remember where I come from, and to make sure my ancestors are not forgotten for future generations, for without them I would not be the person I am today. I am always eager to discuss and share what infomation I have, work with other researchers, and make new acquaintances along the way. Although a person's grave site can become weathered, moved, and forgotten over time, their memory can last forever if we take the time to learn from them and in turn pass that memory on to our descendants and relatives.
