Maggie's taste and tact is plainly visible in its adornment. Mrs. Hittson, who was formerly Miss Maggie Duff, daughter of Calvin Duff, an old resident of Palo Pinto County, is a typical Western woman, possessing the graces and attainments bestowed upon her by nature and education in addition to those traits of character and will resulting from a life-long residence in a frontier region. Her accomplishments are as varied as they are numerous. She can ride the wildest mustang on the ranch with a grace and skill that is remarkable, and Western Texas possesses few musicians who can equal her as a performer on the piano. With the Hittsons the old and time-honored precepts of hospitality are by no means a dead letter. To use an ancient form of expression, their latch string is always out; and the stranger who finds his way to their door is ever welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. Hittson are leaders in the local social circles, and the occasional gatherings at their residence attract attendance from all the towns and neighborhoods in a radius of many miles. The Hittsons have one child, Clara, a beautiful girl in her third year.
