Odell Smith was born March 26, 1927 to the late Rufus Scott and the late Gracie Green. She departed this life on October 17, 2013, at home with family. She was reared in Madison County. She was also educated in the Madison County school system. Odell gave her heart to the Lord at an early age and united with the Chelsea Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America.

Odell married Eddie Smith and from this union six children were born and their blended family grew to fifteen children. After his death, Odell was joined in union to Earl Smith and they were married for sixty years.

Odell prayed that the Lord would save her children. She believed in the power of prayer and all her children accepted Christ. Later on in life she accepted Bible Studies and joined the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Fayetteville, TN. She remained faithful until death. In fact, Odell received an award for coming to church well or sick.

Odell was a very firm person but always shared her love and kindness to all. She was very supportive, willing to share, and to give a helping hand to anyone who was in need.

Odell was preceded in death by her children, James Allen Smith, Margaret Ewing, George Smith, Willie Ed, Lillie, Otis, Riley, and James Smith; her sister, Fannie Erskine and her brother, George Scott.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Earl Smith; and leaves to cherish her memory seven children, Sallie (Porter) Patton, Shirley (Roosevelt) Matthews, Jimmie (Marie) Smith, Mildred Bell, Amos Smith, Leona McCrary, and Beadie Mae Wilks; two sisters, Lucille Langford and Charlotte Green; brother, Jimmie (Addie) Green; 50 grandchildren, 97 great grandchildren, 59 great-great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 100 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013, at the C.T. Mosley Chapel on the campus of Oakwood University (5500 Adventist Boulevard, Huntsville, AL 35896) with Pastor Theodore Brown and Pastor Chester Readus officiating. Interment will be in the Indian Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Smith will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
