BENTON -- Pauline Marie Mortimer Wright Simmons, 90, passed away at 5:25 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, in Helia Healthcare Center in Benton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at Leffler-Poulson Funeral Home of Benton, with the Rev. Bill Carter officiating. Burial will be in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pauline was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Herrin, the daughter of Tom Mortimer and Ella (Swalls) Mortimer.

She married Warren G. Wright on March 4, 1944, in Benton. She later married E.W. Simmons Oct. 22, 1967, in Benton, and he preceded her in death Oct. 2, 2004.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Benton, and also a member of the Benton American Legion Post 280 Women's Auxiliary, and the Illinois State Police Wives Association.

While in High School, Pauline worked at several restaurants in Benton. After High School, she worked at Joane Claire Dress Factory as an assistant floor lady. She would later work at SIU Carbondale in food service as the cafeteria supervisor.

She learned to swim when she was 75 years of age and for several years enjoyed swimming and aquatic exercising at the Rend Lake Aquatics Center.

Most of all Pauline enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by a son, David W. Wright and wife, Marsha, of Benton; two granddaughters, Sara and husband, Jeff Van Horn of Whittington, Julie and husband, Jim Giacone of Benton; four great-grandchildren, Samantha Lynn Van Horn, Jacob Van Horn, Mitchell James Giacone and Lucy Giacone; two stepdaughters, Myrna and husband, Mike Owens of Benton, and Joy and husband, Jimmy Severs of Memphis, Tennessee; 11 stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Evelyn Stines, Millie Adams and Coleen Whaley; one brother, Edward Mortimer, and two stepdaughters, Lynda Crowell and Mary Nell Dunham.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Benton, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
