BECKLEY, WV - Charles Emerson "Charlie" Jarrell, 93, of Beckley, formerly of Rock Creek, WV , died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, in Raleigh General Hospital after a long illness due to complications from a stroke.

He and his first wife Kitty, were long time residents in Rock Creek where they raised 3 children. They were the owners and operators of Charles E. Jarrell General Merchandise in Rock Creek, for over 40 years. At one time it was also a restaurant as well as a gas station and general store. He retired after Kitty died in 1971 and the store burned down in 1974. They were well known and respected in the community. Being a "jack of all trades", Charlie helped many people in the area in their time of need. Many stories of his kindness and generosity have been shared with his family.

He was a member of Rebecca Chapel Methodist Church in Rock Creek, WV, and Biblia Fellowship Community Church in Cocoa, Florida, where he and his second wife, Mary, spent their winters for many years until her death. He also enjoyed attending the Calvary Assembly of God in Beckley, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred "Tom" and Lillie Bradford Jarrell; his first wife, Minnie "Kitty" Gray Jarrell; his second wife, Mary Bone Jarrell; his daughters, Lois Tabor and Sue Danner; and a brother, Bert Jarrell and his wife, Iva.

He is survived by his son, Charles "Tom" Jarrell and his wife, Mary Lou of Daniels, WV; stepson, Dewey Bone Jr and his wife, Lucy of Beckley, WV; stepdaughter, Lois Ann Hamrick and her husband, Grover of Huntington, WV; son-in-laws, Glen Dale Tabor of Beckley, WV and Bob Danner of Mansfield, OH; sister, Pebble C. Jarrell of Beckley, WV; 8 grandchildren, Glenda Tabor Patten, Dale Tabor, John Tabor, Chuck Jarrell, Wendy Jarrell Kline, Scott Danner, Missy Danner Mack, and Stacey Danner; 5 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, with the Rev. Virgil Cook officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, WV.

Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home. The family suggests donations be sent to Rebecca Chapel, General Delivery, Rock Creek, WV 25174.
