Henry Kuperus was born on June 20, 1878, in Meppel, The Netherlands, in the province of Drenthe. He was the son of Hendrik Kuperus and Jentien Mulder. On the 24th of May, 1902, he entered into marriage with Jentina Bartels. After living for a time in South Africa, he came to Leighton, Iowa, approximately forty-five years ago. In the spring of 1955, as a result of ill health, he left his home in Leighton and moved to the Pella Rest Home of Pella, Iowa, where he passed away on Monday evening, September 24, 1956, at the age of 78 years. He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away on August 30, 1934. Surviving Mr. Kuperus are two sisters, Lumegien Kuperus Wyerse and Tryntje Kuperus, and one brother, William Kuperus, all of Transvaal, South Africa; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Albert Van Duren of Oskaloosa. Mr. Kuperus was, since his residence in Leighton approximately forty-five years ago and up to his death, a very active and faithful member of the Leighton Christian Reformed Church, having served in the consistory there for a number of years. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."

Mr. Kuperus, was taken from the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home Thursday noon to the Leighton Christian Reformed Church where services were conducted by the Rev. Thomas De Vries at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Gary Vande Voort served As organist with the following acting a casket bearers: Con De Prenger, Howard Glendening, Walter Steenhoek, Cornie Van Engelenhoven, Dennis Groenendyk, Paul B. Bandstra. Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton.
